From July 2025, Wallonia will introduce a new dynamic electricity tariff<\/strong>, as part of an energy transition aimed at encouraging more flexible consumption aligned with renewable production.<\/p>\n

Under this system, the price per kilowatt-hour<\/strong> (kWh) will vary hourly <\/strong>according to fluctuations in the wholesale market<\/strong>. This pricing flexibility will enable consumers who adapt their consumption to off-peak periods to make significant savings. <\/p>\n

In Wallonia, this increase is estimated at 14% on average<\/strong>, or around \u20ac33 extra per year for an average household consuming 3,500 kWh of electricity. This increase is mainly due to the investments needed to modernize infrastructures<\/strong> and integrate new consumption habits<\/strong>, such as electric vehicles and heat pumps. <\/p>\n

From January 2026, Wallonia will also introduce incentive pricing<\/strong>, offering consumers a choice of several tariff bands spread over the day<\/strong>. This pricing system will be divided into three bands: <\/p>\n

  • Green hours<\/strong>: low rate, from 11:00 to 17:00 and from 1:00 to 7:00.
    Orange hours<\/strong>: intermediate rate, from 7:00 to 11:00 and from 22:00 to 1:00.<\/li>\n
  • Red hours<\/strong>: high rate, from 5pm to 10pm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    This structure is designed to encourage consumers to shift their consumption to periods when electricity is more abundant on the grid<\/strong>. Consumers who choose not to opt for incentive pricing and retain their current rates (single- or dual-rate) will see their electricity bill increase <\/strong>due to rising distribution costs<\/strong> and the modification of the dual-rate <\/strong>currently in force. <\/p>\n

    In this context of new pricing, the use of batteries<\/strong> makes perfect sense.<\/p>\n
