Smart home battery: store your solar energy

What if your home were to become more autonomous, more economical and more intelligent?
Thanks to Belga Solar’s intelligent home batteries, you can store the electricity generated by your photovoltaic panels and use it when you need it most.
Consume your solar energy when you really need it
In Belgium, without a battery, some of the solar electricity generated by your photovoltaic panels is fed back into the grid at a low tariff. An intelligent domestic battery stores this surplus energy, allowing you to use it in the evening or on overcast days, when you really need it.
With a domestic battery coupled to your photovoltaic panels, you can increase your self-consumption, reduce your electricity bills and gain energy independence.
Anticipate new pricing
From July 2025, Wallonia will introduce a new dynamic electricity tariff, as part of an energy transition aimed at encouraging more flexible consumption aligned with renewable production.
Dynamic pricing: a major innovation
From July 2025, Walloon consumers equipped with digital meters and the SMR3 metering system will be able to opt for dynamic pricing. Under this system, the price per kilowatt-hour (kWh) will vary hourly according to fluctuations in the wholesale market. This pricing flexibility will enable consumers who adapt their consumption to off-peak periods to make significant savings.
Distribution rate increases
In parallel with the introduction of dynamic pricing, an increase in distribution tariffs is planned for 2025. In Wallonia, this increase is estimated at 14% on average, or around €33 extra per year for an average household consuming 3,500 kWh of electricity. This increase is mainly due to the investments needed to modernize infrastructures and integrate new consumption habits, such as electric vehicles and heat pumps.
Incentive pricing planned for 2026
From January 2026, Wallonia will also introduce incentive pricing, offering consumers a choice of several tariff bands spread over the day. This pricing system will be divided into three bands:
- Green hours: low rate, from 11:00 to 17:00 and from 1:00 to 7:00.
Orange hours: intermediate rate, from 7:00 to 11:00 and from 22:00 to 1:00. - Red hours: high rate, from 5pm to 10pm.
This structure is designed to encourage consumers to shift their consumption to periods when electricity is more abundant on the grid. Consumers who choose not to opt for incentive pricing and retain their current rates (single- or dual-rate) will see their electricity bill increase due to rising distribution costs and the modification of the dual-rate currently in force.
In this context of new pricing, the use of batteries makes perfect sense.
Belga Solar batteries: smart, connected technology
Belga Solar batteries analyze the production of your solar panels, your consumption habits and the weather forecast to optimize each stored kWh. Some batteries even incorporate a learning system. All this can be controlled via an intuitive application.
The advantages of Belga Solar home batteries
Optimize your self-consumption
Rather than injecting your solar power into the grid, the intelligent battery stores every available kWh and releases it according to your actual needs. In this way, you consume your own free energy first.
Reduce your electricity bills
By consuming your own stored electricity rather than electricity from the grid, you limit your purchases from the supplier, thus protecting your budget against rate hikes.
Reduce peak consumption as early as 2026
By supplying the energy you need at certain strategic times, the intelligent battery helps you avoid the power peaks charged by the new capacity pricing system.
Energy security in the event of a power cut
In the event of a power cut, the battery can, depending on the model, provide emergency power for essential appliances such as the refrigerator, lighting or Internet box.

Frequently asked questions – Home batteries
Which battery capacity to choose?
A house equipped with 5 kWp of solar panels will generally need a 5 to 10 kWh domestic battery. A personalized study is recommended for optimal sizing of the domestic battery.
How much does it cost to install a home battery?
Depending on the capacity and functionality of the home battery, you should expect to pay between €5,000 and €15,000. Prices vary according to whether you're installing a new photovoltaic systemor adding to an existing one.
Is my UPS compatible with a domestic battery?
Your future storage battery must be compatible with your inverter. A hybrid inverter is ideal for a new photovoltaic installation. For solar panels already installed, the addition of an inverter remains possible with a few adaptations.
